Isaiah Chavez hit Bobby Cole for a 44-yard touchdown with 6:22 to play, Brandon Shook forced two Wyoming turnovers thereon, and New Mexico beat the Cowboys 17-16 on Saturday night to snap the longest active losing streak in the FBS.

New Mexico (1-5, 1-5 Mountain West Conference) had lost 14 in a row overall, dating to a 55-52 win over New Mexico State on September 21, 2019. The Lobos ended a 20-game conference losing streak as well — also the longest in the country.

Isaiah Chavez — listed as New Mexico's fifth-string QB in the spring — took over for fellow walk-on Connor Genal who left in the second quarter after suffering an apparent left-wrist injury. Chavez finished 5-of-10 passing for 55 yards without an interception.

Chavez, on fake a jet sweep, hit a wide-open Bobby Cole who raced the final 25 yards untouched to give New Mexico a 17-16 lead with 6:22 to play.

Wyoming's Dontae Crow returned the ensuing kickoff 40 yards to near midfield but nose tackle Ben Gansallo sacked Williams two plays later, bringing up third-and-21 and knocking Williams out of the game. Backup QB Gavin Berrup hit Eberhart for an 18-yard and then on fourth-and-2 pulled the handoff on a read-option play and raced 38 yards to the 7 but but Shook forced a fumble by Smith on the next play and Jake Saltonstall recovered at the 5.

The Wyoming defense forced a three-and-out and started the ensuing drive at the New Mexico 44. After three consecutive incomplete passes, Shook intercepted a fourth-and-10 pass by Berrup to seal it.

Trey Smith had 24 carries for a 154 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown, for Wyoming (2-3, 2-3).

Big fish jackpot city facebook. Running back Xazavian Valladay, a first-team all-Mountain West selection as a sophomore last season, did not play for the Cowboys due to an injury to his left leg suffered during the first quarter of last week's win over UNLV.

Wyoming linebacker Chad Muma Jr. — who went into the game tied for sixth in the nation averaging 12.3 tackles per game — was ejected for targeting just before halftime. He finished with 10 tackles, including two for losses, against New Mexico.

The Jets have themselves a winning streak.

The Jets' first win at MetLife Stadium in 2020 came in their home finale and was made possible by some stingy defense and just enough offense. Here's a look at what went down in win No. 2, which locked New York into pick No. 2 in the 2021 NFL draft.

Final Score: Jets 23, Browns 16

Keys to the Game

Dominant Defense: Yes, the Browns were missing basically all of their receivers, but the Jets played inspired defense nonetheless. Baker Mayfield found himself under pressure and outside the pocket consistently; he was sacked four times and hit seven times. Fortnite save the world not available for purchase. Cleveland's No. 3 rushing offense, meanwhile, was limited to 45yards rushing, though Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt did run for touchdowns.

No Interceptions: Sam Darnold made some risky passes on Sunday, as he's one to do, but none of them were picked off. While drops and luck have certainly played a part, Week 16 was the quarterback's third straight game without an interception. While he still needs to drastically improve his decision-making and accuracy, no damage was done at the end of the day. Darnold also threw two touchdowns against the Browns, tying a season-high.

Slot Score: Jamison Crowder's first-ever pass as a Jets resulted in an end-of-first-quarter touchdown to fellow slot receiver Braxton Berrios. The score gave the Jets momentum and an early lead, one they never relinquished.

It Was Over When.

It was over when, with 3:24 left in the game, Tarell Basham got to Mayfield for a strip-sack. The turnover gave New York terrific field position, which was converted into a field goal.

Those three points gave the Jets a seven-point lead. The Browns then drove down the field, but Mayfield fumbled on a quarterback sneak on 4th and 1. Cleveland recovered, but the New York defense prevented the ball from advancing.

Once again, it was Basham who forced the ball loose.

WR Jamison Crowder: Crowder didn't only pass for a touchdown, but he caught one, too. The receiver finished the day with seven catches for 92 yards. He also added 14 yards on one rushing attempt.

LB Tarell Basham: As previously mentioned, Basham had a monster game — or fourth quarter, rather. His two forced fumbles in crunch time dashed any hopes the Browns had of a comeback. He also had five tackles and three QB hits in the game.

The 16K Club

Frank Gore needed 48 yards to make history on Sunday. He got them.

The Jets running back became just the third-ever member of the 16,000-yard rushing club. The only others? Hall of Famers Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith. Gore will join them in Canton one day as well — assuming his career does indeed eventually end.

This was just a random play at the end of the day, but check out Darnold trucking Browns LB Malcolm Smith in the second quarter:

New Game 1 Hr

For the first time in what feels like forever, the Patriots won't be tuning up or resting for a playoff run in Week 17. And with the race for the No. 1 pick over, the Jets have no drama to add to this matchup, either. Both teams will be able to put their poor campaigns behind them after Sunday's 1 p.m. season-ender.
